Our Aims

Cumbria Deaf Association is an independent local charity that helps deaf people and their families living in Cumbria to achieve educational, physical, social and spiritual well-being. We provide a wide range of specialist services and our dedicated staff and volunteers provide the highest standards of professional care and support. We believe in equality for deaf people and promote understanding and respect within the community.

The aim of Cumbria Deaf Association is:

‘The educational, physical, social and spiritual well-being of deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and Deafblind people of all ages and their families, mainly but not exclusively in Cumbria.’

To do this, we seek to involve people who are deaf by raising awareness of their rights and responsibilities and ensuring equal access to all services by:

  • Promoting the place of deaf people in the community.
  • Providing needs led service for individuals and groups.
  • Promoting positive use of all sources of information & communication
  • Identifying, developing & using the skills of staff & volunteers

We believe that deafness should not affect independence, choice or access.
