Sign Language Professional Development Day a Success

Sign language training in Kendal

Developing the next generation of sign language interpreters is something Cumbria Deaf Association take seriously. Trainees need to acquire practical skills, grow in confidence and experience various settings to ensure they have a wide range of sign language vocabulary. To help them practice their skills, and have the opportunity to refresh their minds, as many conversations were limited due to the covid pandemic, Karen Edmondson, our senior interpreter, hosted a professional development day in September.

Karen invited members of the deaf community to join us in Kendal to provide real life scenario based training and various activities. Karen said “the support of the deaf community was overwhelming, with people giving up their time to come and chat. It was such a friendly atmosphere, with lots of work and laughter.”

We will be offering further development days. If you are interested, please follow us on social media for further updates or contact the office and ask to be put on the mailing list for CPD days.
